What is an antique and what is semi-antique?  Most people consider oil paintings, cut glass, pottery, artifacts, vases, bronzes etc. antique at 100 years of age.  But all these items are not used daily so remain in perfect condition for possibly hundreds of years.  Rugs however are used daily and therefore scholars agree that a rug is semi-antique from 30-50 years of age and it becomes antique 50 years and older.  Rugs are textiles and are prone to hazards not common to most items therefore relatively few "survivors" exist.
